Gingivitis and periodontitis
Gum Health Matters
Bleeding, swollen, or tender gums may be a sign of early gum disease (gingivitis). If left untreated, it can progress to more advanced gum disease (periodontitis), leading to receding gums and bone loss, causing loose teeth.

Bleeding gums can be caused by:
-
Gum disease due to to tartar and calculus buildup
-
Brushing or flossing incorrectly
-
Medical conditions or medications
-
Hormonal changes

Treatment
At Whitehorse Smile Care, we provide expert gum disease treatment to restore and maintain healthy gums. During your dental exam and clean appointment, our team will assess your teeth and gums for any signs of gum disease.

If early gum disease (gingivitis) is detected, the dentist can create a custom treatment plan with oral care guidance to reverse the condition and prevent progression.

If advanced gum disease (periodontitis) is detected, more extensive treatment may be required. oftentimes involving a deep clean may be needed to remove bacteria and calculus below the gumline, to prevent the disease from worsening.
